Welcome to SPCA Fiji

Our Shelter at 155 Foster Road provides a temporary home for strays and unfortunate pets where they receive treatment and rehabilitation before they can be adopted.

The shelter can safely house up to 120 cats and dogs at a time, depending on whether we have enough staff and the health and age of the animals. This means SPCA is not always able to accommodate new intakes.

There are, in fact, far more strays and unwanted cats and dogs than SPCA's shelter can accommodate. The SPCA Shelter is not a sanctuary. It is a temporary home only and we do not condone keeping animals in cages for lengthy periods (SPCA's limited space does not allow sufficient space for proper exercise of dogs at this time).

Fiji’s biggest problem causing the severe stray situation is uncontrolled overpopulation. We encourage you to take care of your pets and help prevent new litters by getting your male and female pets desexed.

You can help reduce the issue of stray animals by supporting our Outreach Program, volunteering with us, or donating any amount you are able to share.

There are many ways to help!

What we do

Animal Shelter for Cats and Dogs

There are thousands of stray animals just in Suva alone. While we are unable to save them all, we try to change as many lives for the better as we can. We offer temporary for up to 120 dogs and cats at the time - the limit of what our aging facility can take in.

Veterinary Services

The Clinic, also at 155 Foster Road, aims to provide basic and affordable veterinary care for owned and stray animals. The Clinic also provides the facility for desexing of both owned and stray cats and dogs. Revenue generated from the Clinic is used to support the upkeep of the shelter and to cover the cost hiring qualified veterinarians and nurses who are needed to run the Clinic.

Community Desexing Events & Outreach

Our work doesn't stop with the clinic and shelter. SPCA's goal has long been to take veterinary services to our communities and to those stray animals most in need. In March 2019, we launched our CLAW programme - Communities, Legislation and Animal Welfare.  CLAW aims to coordinate teams of international volunteer veterinarians to visit target villages and settlements, providing wellness checks, deworming, vaccinations and desexing of dogs and cats.
